A reading incentive program called "The 25 Book Club" was launched. Approximately 350 students registered. 26 students read 10 or more books, 8 students read 20 or more books, and 3 students read 25 books. Circulation increased to over 1,000 books/month, and then increased 30% more.


December bookfair featured a poster contest with coupons redeemable for books for the winners, including Life Skills students. March bookfair featured "Buy One--Get One Free" to help build home libraries.


Hosted interactive television program, Stories for Children, with storyteller Catalina Rios, a teacher from the Abington Friends School, which aired live on April 28, 1998. With the cooperation of Clemente art teacher Ms. Janice Ramsey, student artwork featured on the show was also exhibited at Taller Puertorriqueño, 2721 N. 5 Street.


Produced two videos starring Clemente students--one on correct library behavior, one promoting " The 25 Book Club."

Principal supported professional development for the librarian who attended monthly Library Power meetings, a computer workshop in the spring, the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association conference, Philadelphia Educational Summit meetings, an observation day at both AMY NW and Elverson Middle School, a Best Practices day at Beeber Middle School where the emphasis was on the research process, a SDP sponsored day in January at the Central branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, and an ACCESS PA meeting at the Masterman School.


Two Best Practices Days were held in the IMC. May 5 was a teaching day for professional librarians; May 20 was a technical day for library staff.


The librarian made an evening presentation on school libraries at a Home and School meeting at the Whittier School in January, 1998.


Additional staffing included a part-time aide, two community volunteers, and a student teacher from Drexel University, School of Information Science and Technology.


The IMC is fully integrated into the 1998 Clemente Summer Institute, the focus of which is literacy.


Librarian is a member of ALA, PSLA, the SDP Librarians' Steering Committee, on the executive board of the Association of Philadelphia School Librarians, and Lead Librarian for Olney Cluster.
